Last chance to register for the EuroVelo and Cycle Tourism Conference 2018!

The EuroVelo and Cycle Tourism Conference 2018 will take place in Limburg, Belgium on 26-28 September. The deadline for registering is fast approaching (12 September 2018), so don’t delay and register here for the conference.

Both the EuroVelo team and the staff from Toerisme Limburg have been busy setting up a diverse and international programme for the conference over the last few months. In this article, we present you the final programme so you know what you sign up for when registering for this exciting event! Visit the Conference’s website for the last news and updates.

The event will begin on the evening of Wednesday 26 September with the Welcome Drinks. After registering at the Radisson Blu lobby (from 18:30 to 20:00), participants will be invited to proceed to the Sky Bar to meet the other participants. This café, situated on the 18th floor of the hotel, gives an amazing view of the city of Hasselt. It will be the occasion for some networking before the conference begins.

The registration desk will be open again on the morning of 27 September, from 7:30 to 9:00, for those who did not have the chance to register the night before. Upon registering you will receive a confirmation of the parallel sessions you registered to, and some practical details about the social activity you chose to take part in on 28 September. The opening of the conference will be given at 9:00 on the 2nd floor of Radisson Blu, with speeches from Christophe Najdovski, President of the European Cyclists’ Federation and Jeroen Luys, Director of Toerisme Limburg.

The theme of this year’s EuroVelo and Cycle Tourism Conference is “Experiencing the Unique”. Plenary speakers and guests for each parallel session have been carefully selected according to this theme and they will talk about truly special places and cycling trails, unusual journeys, surprising innovations and how to communicate their unique characteristics.

During the morning plenary session (9:20-10:45), you will have the opportunity to listen to Ward Segers from Toerisme Limburg talk about the Limburg cycle node network and the new cycling experiences that can be expected in the next year, to Dries & Yuri – the incredibly gifted creators of Wasbar and Chez Claire – who will reveal their secrets during an ‘out of the box’ session, and to Josh Ibbett, hardcore traveler and winner of the Transcontinental Race, who will explain how he does it and what he packs when leaving for one of his epic races. Learn more about the morning plenary speakers in this article.

After a coffee break that will enable participants to visit the exhibition, the conference will resume with three parallel sessions respectively titled Blazing a trail: Innovation in cycle tourism (Session A), Cycle highways and cycle tourism – Is there a synergy? (Session B) and Communicating the cycle tourism experience (Session C). Each session will welcome between four and six speakers and be moderated by a member of the ECF’s EuroVelo team.

The sessions are titled Developing experiences: the future of cycle tourism products (Session D), Effective cycle network management (Session E) and Perfect Companions: Cycle tourism and public transport (Session F).

Two more plenary sessions will bring us to the end of the formal programme between 16:15 and 17:15. Adam Bodor, Advocacy and EuroVelo Director at ECF, will talk about the future of cycle tourism in Europe. All participants will then have some time to refresh before heading to the Conference dinner which will be held in the beautiful location of Tiendschuur in Herkenrode Abbey, very close to Hasselt. Make sure to try the Herkenrode beers (either blond, triple or brown) during the evening!
