New NECCs and NEC

EuroVelo is honoured to welcome three new members to its network of National EuroVelo Coordination Centres and Coordinators (NECC/Cs) this year. The new NECCs in Belgium and Hungary and the new NEC in Greece will strengthen the link between the European and the national and regional levels regarding cycle tourism.

The EuroVelo network welcomed the addition of three new members to its NECC/Cs network at the beginning of the year. With these new “recruits”, EuroVelo will improve the coordination, implementation, operation and quality assurance of EuroVelo routes in the three countries.

In Belgium, provelothe role of National EuroVelo Coordination Centre will be taken over by Pro Velo. It started out in 1992 as Brussels’ cyclists wanted to join forces. The main goal was to support the development of cycle infrastructure and promote cycling. Since then, Pro Velo has developed into a service organisation operating from five cyclist houses in Brussels and Wallonia. The main services are education in cycling, bicycle rental, tourism, organisation of bicycle events and study services. With their wide range of services, they are the perfect contact point for the EuroVelo network in Belgium.

citiesAnother association that joined the EuroVelo network this year is “Cities for cycling”, which will be the National EuroVelo Coordinator in Greece. Their main missions are to improve the touristic potential in Greece through a cooperation with representatives from the public and private sectors as well as NGOs, inform and educate the public about cycling and promote it as a factor for the development of the national economy, among other things.

HungarynewFinally, the Ministry of National Development, Cycling Coordination Department will be the new National EuroVelo Coordinator Centre in Hungary. Its role will be to link the European to the national level, guaranteeing the continuity of the EuroVelo project.
