An international promotional cycle tour, organised by ECF member Nadace Partnerství, promoted the EuroVelo 13 – Iron Curtain Trail along the Czech-Austrian border. From the 20th to the 27th of May 2017, 30 cycle tourists from the Czech Republic, Austria and other countries cycled 570 km (alt. over 6 000 m) from Vyšší Brod, South Bohemia to Schloßhof, Lower Austria.

During the ride the cycle tourists, including Czech and Austrian EuroVelo coordinators, met with municipalities, regional authorities, tourism organisations and NGOs. They also visited 10 tourist attractions along the European Green Belt. At the Velo-City Conference in Nijmegen this particular section of the EuroVelo 13 was already extensively promoted with a lot of photo and video material.

The promotional cycle tour displayed the historical and natural richness, which the EuroVelo 13 and the Green Belt have to offer.

The cycle tour enabled a comparison of the service quality, infrastructure and EuroVelo signposting on both sides of the border. The promo cycle tour is part of an Interreg V-A project Austria-Czech Republic “Culture and Nature along the Green Belt”. The main goal of this project is to increase visitor numbers in the European Green Belt corridor as well as to improve the common interpretation of recent history in form of storytelling, using modern marketing tools and technologies. Seven partners from the Czech Republic (South Moravia region, South Moravia and South Bohemia Tourism, Vysočina Tourism and Nadace Partnerství) and Austria (Wein- and Waldviertel Tourism), participate in the project.
