EuroVelo Certification Training Course

7 October 2015 @ 12 h 00 min - 9 October 2015 @ 12 h 00 min

The EuroVelo Certification Training Course consists of a 3-day training session on how to certify bicycle routes. The course is tailored to the EuroVelo certification standards but the certification training can also serve as a tool for national and regional bicycle routes. Registration is open to all and the training is aimed at National EuroVelo Coordination Centres and Coordinators (NECC/Cs) as well as external parties that have an interest in the topic.

The training course will take place between Wednesday 7th and Friday 9th October 2015. During the three days participants will be trained in how to correctly certify a section of a EuroVelo route. It will include certification standards, field data collection and data processing. At the end of the training course, participants will be tested on what they have learned and, on condition that they pass, will receive an official EuroVelo certification licence.

Draft programme

Wednesday 7th October (Afternoon) Course introduction and overview of programme. Followed by two workshops:1. Certification standards – an outline of the requirements that a route must fulfil in order to receive certification based on the European Certification Standard Manual (long version).2. Certification mobile app. – Introduction to the mobile app developed by the EuroVelo team. There will be opportunities to ask questions throughout the afternoon.
Thursday 8th October (Full day) Field data collection: This will consist of a trip on a bicycle route in and around Brussels. The first part of the day will consist of a demonstration and a first attempt at data collection with the supervision of one of the course instructors. The second part of the day will consist of an independent data collection session.
Friday 9th October (Morning) Data processing & testing: The morning will consist of a guided data processing session. The data from the previous day will be downloaded and assessed. There will then be a test in order to ensure that the participants are able to correctly apply the certification process.  Awarding of certificate to those participants who passed the test.
